Luca Bastiani was born in Rome on 2 May 1977.
His first approach to violin making was the restoration of some instruments he owned.
He attended a three-year training course in Gubbio and in 2003 he obtained his qualification as Master Violin and Bow Maker under Masters Guerriero Spataffi and Marcello Di Sante.
In 2003 he was employed in the “Liutarte” workshop in Naples where he specialized in the construction of bowed instruments according to the models of Neapolitan Masters Alessandro, Nicola and Ferdinando Gagliano; he also completed his knowledge on these makers with research on local historical documents.
In the summer of 2003 he attended a specialization course on mounting and set-up of bowed instruments at the “Sinfonia” Music School in Lucca hold by Masters Michele Mecatti and Paolo Sorgentone from Florence.
In 2006 he moved to Cremona where he obtained the Post-Qualification Diploma of the Lombardy Region on Bow Maintenance under the guidance of Master Giovanni Lucchi.
Since then he has constantly consolidated his experience as a maker of new instruments by working with some of the most prestigious violin makers in Cremona, and he has further specialized in the construction and set-up of violins, violas and cellos under Master Francesco Toto.
